I had to google what the heck a Liebster was when I was told I was nominated. The Liebster Award is an award passed on by other bloggers, which comes from the German word Lieb for love! I’m so thankful to my friends Bassam and Lena from Happily Ever Adventures for nominating me and passing on the love.

Here are my answers to their blogger’s Q&A:

  1. Why did you start blogging?autumn

I started my blog as a way to continue my work (and studies) in writing, and create a platform for my passion. I blogged previously about my study abroad experiences and also for school, and always thought it would be awesome to start my own blog as a side business venture. After I committed to going to Europe after graduating last spring, I decided now is the time to pursue it! I’m still experimenting, but I’ve decided to turn my journey and mindset into my personal brand.

  1. What is your favorite thing about blogging? Least favorite?

My favorite part about blogging is connecting with others. It’s been really awesome being able to meet like-minded individuals and bloggers through the digital community, and even make new friends! I’ve met up with several travelers in Dubrovnik and formed really meaningful connections that I’m grateful for. It’s also so heartwarming when people reach out to me and say they love my blog, or send me a message that one of my articles really touched them. It makes all the hard work so rewarding!

My least favorite part is managing all the social media channels. I know that it’s part of the job and in order to grow it’s necessary… but sometimes I’m drained managing Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram on top of actually writing quality content. WHEW.

  1. What book do you recommend for easing wanderlust cravings?

Far and Away by Andrew Solomon!

  1. Where is your favorite place you’ve visited and your favorite things to do there? {Can be your hometown!}dsc04378

It’s hard for me to say one favorite, because I’m in love with so many places for different reasons. Currently I’m obsessing over Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. For me it feels like a combination of Chicago and Croatia (my two favorite places) in one metropolitan European city. It’s super eclectic, funky, and totally safe for solo female travelers!

My favorite thing to do there is to listen to music in the park! I felt so free just to sit in a café,people watch and listen to some funky jazz music, which reminded me a lot of Chicago!

  1. What is your favorite food you’ve eaten while traveling?Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

So I spent four years living in Chicago, and when I found the Chicago French Market I thought I died and went to heaven. Inside an underground market, there’s a ton of little food trucks, ranging from tuna poke bowls, gluten free crepes, Vietnamese, and vegan specialties. I usually get at least two things when I go, so I guess it’s more of a favorite place than one specific type of food. Oh man, I’m getting hungry just thinking about it!

  1. What does your perfect day look like?

Something like this:

Get up. Go to hot yoga. Get a few hours of work done remotely, preferable for an awesome NGO or my own green business someday. Get lunch at a vegetarian/ gluten free restaurant with some friends. Go for a hike somewhere in the mountains, and take some beautiful photos for a blog post ;). Relax and play guitar seaside with friends/family and my boyfriend for sunset. Watch Parks and Rec as I’m going to bed 🙂

  1. How do you keep fit while traveling?10982476_10206318688950897_2179116247038087452_n

Well first of all, I do yoga every single day, usually on Youtube or using the Yoga Studio App on my phone. If I can find a yoga studio, that’s even better. This really helps me keep fit and also helps with my chronic back pain.

I’m also walking a lot in Europe, and just generally try to stay active and outdoors. I go hiking at least once a week. I usually join a gym as well!
And most of all, I eat very healthy. A lot of fruits and veggies, and I love finding unique vegan recipes (though I’m not a committed vegan). But I don’t obsess about it. I also eat a lot of chocolate. 🙂

  1. What annoys you most about your partner when traveling?

    12743707_10209079109319681_5910923694252256900_n

Visiting Ljubljana last New Years together.

Haha hmmm… Well generally I’d say we travel really well together, and bless Domeniko’s heart for voluntarily taking so many photos of me 😉 I guess it would be when he gets tired and cranky and acts like a grumpy old man! LOL.

  1. What do you get most homesick for when traveling?

Like most people, I really miss my friends and family back home while traveling. Living in Chicago, studying abroad, and now living abroad, I’ve missed a lot of special moments, like my nieces first birthday. That’s always tough for me.

In addition, I get homesick for my bed, and also foods. I often crave my beloved gluten free and vegetarian eats I can easily find in Minnesota and Chicago. In Croatia there’s not a ton of diversity in foods, so I often miss Mexican and Asian dishes.

  1. What are your best travel hacks or travel gadgets you can’t live without?

Processed with VSCO with f2 preset

Sony a6000 with my new sunglasses.

I can’t live without my Sony a6000 camera and my Gopro hero 4! Both have wifi capabilities so I can get the pictures sent directly to my phone!

  1. What are the top 3 hotels you’ve stayed at?

I honestly barely stay in hotels now as a college student/grad on a budget, but I have had some fond memories here:

Atlantis Hotel, Bahamas

The Americano, New York

Bellagio, Las Vegas
